Vintage vs Gothic

I’d come to decide my theme as I was inspired by a photo of 1950’s theme in a mag. You know, 50’s era – sheer, frills, bows, dusty colours. They all spell vintage. (But bright contrasting colour like rainbow, spells vintage as well). There was this one photo of soft candy pink sheer curtain tied with a black ribbon bow. Melted my heart.

Since it got me choosing soft pink & black, I guess there’s a very fine line not to fall to ‘gothic’ ambiance. I would want my day to be sweet and I agree with WLT, black can be dominating. Soft pink & brown combo will definitely look vintage. But it’s kinda hard to get the perfect brown to match up to the soft pink, really. I don't want to turn out with uncoordinated colour combo just because I couldn’t find sufficient supply of dusty brown ribbons :P

So I guess the rule is to get the black to complement, not to dominate. Pink & black do not equal to black & white. We can have more black on white - but black cannot be more on pink. Unless you are going for the gothic theme. And avoid black damask design for the same reason.

I guess this pic explain it well.
More soft pink on cake & dress = vintage.
More black on the cake & dress = gothic.

But gothic is cool too, I must say. (I love black damask design…)
This is the people who manage to pull it off!

Pic from here.
Pengantin dan pelamin sgt cantik & menarik! Simple je kan? The frame is obviously gothic. And the theme - HOT PINK & BLACK. Except the pelamin background – Soft pink with little black butterflies – feels vintage.

Anyhow, I’d go for vintage – extensive soft pink (konon2 nak majlis yg sweet) & minimum black for the ribbon bows and all the tiny little things. Just to complement ;)

p.s. Friends who are coming to my majlis (especially Asmarians), I've change my mind. Black is too much for you all (and dominating the sweetness :P). Dah la panas plak tu. Datang pakai soft pink ye. Macam masa nikah Shera itu hari... ;)
(Nasrah, soft pink ye, bkn hot pink)

qis, vintage is sooo 'in' sampai bila2... :) the combo is nice but you need to have the right balance if you don't want it look as the dominator. heheh.

tp, i think... black complements things. like black ribbons- butterflies... lanterns? hahhaa

diah: thanks for reminding me that! aih... black = exclusive. but it will only stand out by itself, kan... kalo campur dgn pink, mcm mst kna careful jugak je...

nasrah: hahha, ok, nanti kalo aku jumpa yg nice, aku belikan utk hg.

mira: agree! i think any color will need to have the right balance, as to which one we would want to stand out more...

diyana: yep, Asmarian (1996-1998). good luck with color picking! ;)
